Star Player

It's freezing in Atlanta today! Getting out of bed and starting your day takes on a whole new meaning when it's cold outside. Around 5:30 am I rebundled my comforter around myself and decided I needed at least 30 more minutes. But as soon as I began to drift back into lala land "Anayah" quickly reminded me that a Diva's work is never done and that in order to acquire and maintain the title "Diva" you have to rise early, work hard and prep late. There's no rolling out of bed, throwing on the first thing you can get your hands on, snatching your hair back in a nappy neck ponytail and running out the house. That's not Diva-ish at all.


This Epiphany came to me yesterday in Walgreens while standing in line looking a Hot Mess, thinking to myself I hope I don't see anyone I know. And no sooner than I thought it, in walks an old classmate. WTH! Now I know I'm not the only one guilty of this, slipping on something just to run in the store syndrome but it has got to stop. Because it never fails...you always see someone you know and while you're standing there cursing in your head, looking her up and down from head to toe; she's making a mental note of all the people she's going to call and let know how bad you were looking. Yesterday (HOPEFULLY) was my last day.

A person that is stylish and always well put together is putting forth an effort to look that way. There is no Fairy Style Mother coming to their house every morning helping them get dressed. They have more than likely decided the night before what they are going to wear the next day, they have wrapped and prepped their hair and they rise early to execute the polished look we admire the next day. Some call it vanity, I realize now that it is SELF LOVE at its finest. Whether they are dressed to the nines in after five attire or simply have on a pair of jeans and sneakers, they are giving you their BEST! The right accessories, the right bag, even their eyewear is on point. What is that?

I think it's all about taking care of my "Star Player", ME! It's about wanting to be at my best and wanting to present the best of me to the world. I may have to get up 30 minutes earlier or go to bed 30 minutes later or GOD forbid miss one of my beloved tv shows; but aren't I worth it? The same effort I make when it's a special occasion or I'm going somewhere nice, is the same effort I should put forth everyday. Every day that I'm granted an opportunity to shine is a Special Occassion.

Objective: Take care of my Number 1 Draft pick ~ I am the star of my team and if I look bad the entire Franchise looks bad.
